Basil Bacall proven himself to be a matchless humanitarian with deep compassion for his fellow Iraqi Christians. Working with the Chaldean Federation of America (CFA), Basil was instrumental in implementing the Adopt-A-Refugee Family committee in mid 2007 to help Christian refugees cruelly driven from war-torn Iraq. Adopt-A-Refugee Family is the only program of its kind that offers immediate and direct help to Iraqi Christian refugees with absolutely no administrative costs. To date more than 3,000 refugees were assisted by the Adopt-A-Refugee Family program. In addition, more than $743,000 has been raised as of March 2009. In late 2007, Basil used his own funds to travel to the Middle East to see for himself how the program is working and to get it up and running in Syria. He met with refugees young and old to see firsthand their squalid living conditions and to learn how he and the CFA can help. In addition to being a commercial airline pilot, Basil holds a Bachelor of Science from Thomas Edison State University in New Jersey. He has also completed advanced theology courses with the Eastern Catholic Re-Evangelization Center. |
Because of its magnitude and urgency, the Chaldean Federation of America has partnered with various well-known organizations in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, etc., as well as with an international Jesuit organization to launch the “Adopt-A-Refugee-Family” initiative.

One of the many humanitarian relief efforts orchestrated by the CFA, the goal of the “Adopt-A-Refugee-Family” program is to help at least 600 families reestablish their security and livelihood by the end of 2008 in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, etc. The turmoil in Iraq and the surrounding areas has taken its toll on more than 20,000 families—mostly Christians—who are being singled out, persecuted and even murdered because of their religious beliefs. These people were, until recently, exactly like many of us—business professionals, salespeople, lawyers, and teachers. Now a religious minority, they are forced from their homes and left with no other choice than to seek refuge and safety anywhere they can throughout the region.
Reduced to the status of “refugees,” these displaced persons are prohibited from working, going to school, worshipping … and are prevented from living their normal lives. Not only have they lost their homes, their jobs, and their livelihoods, but their food, water and other basic necessities have become exceedingly scarce. Entire families—children, infants, grandmothers Adopt a refugee family now and 100% of your donation will go directly toward helping a family in need.
