How To Volunteer

The CFA wishes to thank the many volunteers for the hundreds of hours they have committed to this work. There is still much more work to be done, and we hope more of our community will consider joining this relief effort and become volunteers as well.

Volunteer Qualities

We seek the following qualities in our volunteers:

A reasonable ability to tie information together from various documents

Availability: we prefer volunteers who can devote two or more days a week and are able to provide a minimum of two hours on the days they are available. We sometimes will work on Saturdays. We will work to accommodate students' schedules as much as possible.
Consistency and dedication: if you volunteer, please show up. If you cannot make it, contact CFA or your team leader.

We also need team leaders — those willing to take responsibility for an assigned task and follow it through it to completion. We seek team leaders with the following qualifications:

The ability to follow instructions

The ability to understand the work at hand, and willingness to ask questions if not. Not everyone is skilled to perform the same things. So, we will try to utilize each person's skills for the benefit of the work at hand.

The ability to work well with others.

Volunteer Goals

The primary assignment of our volunteers is to:

Extract information from the applications submitted to CFA by U.S. relatives of Iraqi refugees.
Thoroughly read the application and become familiar with each individual case.
Complete a Summary/Evaluation sheet for each case.
In some cases, place a follow-up call to the sponsor will be necessary.
